Yumkella arrives outside London City Hall this weekend at COP-26 – The Sierra Leone Telegraph

Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, Speaker of Parliament for the opposition National Grand Coalition (NGC) in Sierra Leone and Member of Parliament representing the Samu Chiefdom in the district of Kambia, Sierra Leone, arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, yesterday for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change. (COP26).

The high-level event, hosted by the UK in partnership with Italy, brings together governments, international organizations, civil society and the private sector to unite the global community in fighting climate change.

The COP26, the largest climate-related conference on earth, is the result of negotiations that took place at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992, during which the nations agreed to “stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere” in order to avoid dangerous to prevent human activities on our climate. Today the contract has over 190 signatories.

Aside from bilateral meetings with his numerous partners, Dr. Yumkella has a busy schedule. During his stay, he will present a number of events and moderate a few sessions where he is expected to set the tone on issues such as energy access, clean cooking, gender and women empowerment, climate and the role of governments in driving action.

As Co-Chair of the Energy Strategy Group of the Africa – Europe Foundation, Dr. Yumkella lead discussions on strengthening the Africa-Europe energy partnership and strengthening the Africa-Europe climate alliance: Outlook from COP26 to COP27.

In addition, he will help shape the discussions on “Chances to Move to Low Carbon Cooking” at the University of Loughborough (MECS) event and “Empowering Governments to Lead Clean Cooking Transitions” at the Clean Cooking Alliance event.

In addition, Yumkella will also moderate the event of the African Union (AU) on the subject of “Opportunities and challenges for the African energy transition: What will Africa need to achieve net zero emissions” and the EU – African Business Roundtable, through which he will speak “Scaling Up International Partnerships for Africa’s Transition on the Clean Development Drive”.

The hopeful President of Sierra Leone 2023 will also do justice to the presentation of “Sustainable Transitions: Energy, Environment and Resilience” at Strathclyde University and at the ENERGIA / UNIDO event on the topic of “Enhancing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment to Accelerated a, inclusive and “talk about climate resilient energy transition,” including events organized by the Rocky Mountain Institute, where he is a board member.

Yumkella is leaving Scotland and will travel to London, where he will meet and greet members, supporters and well-wishers of the National Grand Coalition Party at a town hall forum moderated and directed by the editor and publisher of the Sierra Leone Telegraph. next Saturday, October 6th, 2021.

He will then travel to Paris at the invitation of the Nigerian International Partnership Summit, where he will be the keynote speaker on “Africa’s Economic Outlook: Moving Africa from the Margins to the Mainstream of the Global Economy – Nigeria’s Pivotal Role” before returning home.
