Street Day celebrating after London Sport awards triumph

TECHNOLOGY trailblazers Street Tag toasted making it third time lucky after claiming a major London Sport Award at the Guildhall on Monday night.

The mobile application has been credited with bringing families together by using incentives, unique tags, and events to help increase physical activity.

Barking-based Street Tag were presented with the Tech and Digital Award, in association with Sport Tech Hub and Loughborough University London, ahead of the similar virtual heroics of both Merton Mencap and Bexley Mencap during the pandemic.

And CEO Sean Oshinaike said: “I feel ecstatic and very appreciative. It all goes to show that our hard work and persistence over the last three years or so has been worth it.

“I think it’s really important to showcase the work that we do, as well as all the other organizations shortlisted, because all of us have been actively working to get families active in our various communities and London as a whole.

“I think we need that community aspect more than ever, especially as a result of Covid – at Street Tag we have been able to provide Covid rehab.

“We just kept going because we love it and to be recognized, it means we’re doing something right and that there’s something more to come.”

Over the last five years, the annual London Sport Awards, in association with the City of London Corporation, has grown to become the biggest celebration of grassroots and community physical activity and sport in the city.

And this year’s showpiece event once again recognized, celebrated, and shone a light on the stories of the incredible individuals, groups, and organizations for their outstanding work across the capital, helping Londoners of all ages and backgrounds to be physically active.

Ben Cole, Head of Strategic Projects and Future Space from Loughborough University London, one of the sponsors of the Tech and Digital Award, said: “One of my favorite days of the year over the past year was the judging day.

“It was a magnificent reminder of what sport brings to us, giving us something to do during the pandemic and I think, really importantly, the stories of hope from pretty much all of the award winners – it was just an incredible day.

“I think with Street Tag, what we were seeing was a technology that finally found its time. “Unfortunately, during the Covid pandemic, we all turned to apps and online to get active and get out and Street Tag was just that perfect moment to get families out together and get exercising.”

The London Sport Awards, in association with the City of London Corporation, shines a spotlight on the unsung community heroes helping Londoners of all backgrounds to enjoy the benefits of physical activity and sport.
