London news: Capital’s biggest stories as kids warned to stay away from fun fair over ‘stabbing’ and man knifed in own home

A fun fair in Greenwich was forced to close last night, with children in the area warned to stay home amid reports of a stabbing at a nearby fun fair. In footage shared online, crowds of hundreds can be seen gathered near Blackheath as police helicopters circle overhead.

The Met have told that a stabbing was reported, but they’re yet to find a victim. Council leader Dan Thorpe urged parents who know their kids are in the area to make “urgent contact”, and to get them to stay away from the fair.

Elsewhere in East London, a man was stabbed in his own home. The victim, 40, from Barking, was being treated in hospital at the last update from police. A crime scene remains in place at his home.

Meanwhile, in South London, commuters faced major delays between Croydon and Streatham after the sad death of someone on the line. Southern Rail confirmed the tragic news in a tweet reading: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between East Croydon and Streatham.”
