A Black Lives Matter activist is fighting for her life after she was shot in the head on Sunday morning in London.

Sasha Johnson, a mother of three, had faced “numerous” death threats prior to the Peckham incident and is believed to be in critical condition. However, police say they do not believe the attack was a targeted attack and have since been suspected of being “shot in the head by armed passers-by following a clash between rival gangs”.

The prominent anti-racism activist is a member of the Taking the Initiative Party, who said in a statement: “It is with great sadness that we announce that our own Sasha Johnson was shot in the head. She is currently in the hospital and is in critical condition.

“The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning after numerous death threats.”

The statement goes on to say, “Sasha has always actively fought for blacks and the injustices that surround the black community, and is a member of both BLM and a member of the Take the Initiative Party’s Executive Leadership Committee.

‘Sasha is also a mother of 3 and a strong, powerful voice for our people and our community.’

TTIP said Ms. Johnson, who organized the Million People March, was “a strong, powerful voice for our people and our community”.

The party said she was an “Oxford graduate” – but is believed to have attended Oxford Brookes.

Claudia Webbe, Labor MP for Leicester East, was among those who went online to express “solidarity” with Ms. Johnson.

Ms. Webbe said, “We were all out for Black Lives Matter last year.

“I only know her as an activist on these issues from Black Lives Matter. I support Black Lives Matter, so I support what she did.

“As a Member of Parliament, I am fully with the Black Lives Matter movement and I am in the Black Lives Matter movement with your work.”

This morning the Metropolitan Police said they are investigating a shooting in Peckham but did not immediately confirm tonight whether it was the same incident.

Police said they were called to reports of gunfire on Consort Road just before 3 a.m.

Police and firearms rushed to the scene with the London Ambulance Service.

They found a woman believed to be in her 20s with a gunshot wound, the Met said, adding that she was “hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.”

The shooting is believed to have taken place near a house that was hosting a party and there may have been several people in the area.

A spokesman said the investigation was at an early stage but there was no evidence that it was a targeted attack or that the woman had received credible threats against her prior to the incident.
