Bensted takes over the management of the Irish managing director in London

The London Irish have appointed Mark Bensted as the club’s next manager.

Bensted, who has been a board member of the club since 2013, will take up his new position in January, replacing Brian Facer, who will take over as CEO of British Cycling in the new year.

He is leaving Powerday, the company owned by Irish owner and President of London, Mick Crossan, where he has been Managing Director since May 2010.

Bensted previously worked for British Waterways as their director in London, where he was responsible for operations, property and leisure, including major developments in Canary Wharf and Paddington Basin and the Olympic Park.

“I am delighted to be part of London Irish and to lead the management team at this important point in the club’s development,” he said.

“I have been a board member since 2013 and have led many strategic initiatives during this time. I’m really looking forward to working with the management team and our rugby director, Declan Kidney, to thrive on and off the field. ”

Crossan said: “We moved quickly to replace Brian as we realize this is a key period in the club’s history having recently returned to London and moved into our new home at Brentford Community Stadium.”
